Belle Film premieres in official selection at Cannes on July 15 – News – .

The official website of the Cannes Film Festival announced on Sunday that Mamoru Hosoda and Studio Chizuis new Belle (Ryū à Sobakasu no Hime, literally “The dragon and the freckled princess”) will be screened in the Premiere section of the festival in Cannes on July 15th. This is the festival’s first official selection for Hosoda. (The director’s precedent Mirai film screened at the Directors’ Fortnight, independent section organized at the same time as the festival, in 2018.)

The festival will also screen the French animated film CG by Jiro Taniguchi‘s The Summit of the Gods (Kamigami no Itadaki) manga as part of the Official Selection.

The film will be released in Japan on July 16. GKIDS has licensed the film for North America, and will release the film in English and Japanese with English subtitles this winter. The film will be screened on IMAX in 38 theaters across Japan. This makes Belle the first of Hosoda’s films to have IMAX screenings.
