Alok Verma: Phones of Former CBI Chief Alok Verma Also on Snoop List

NEW DELHI: After the government decided to remove Alok Verma from his post as head of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), his three phone numbers were reportedly logged by an anonymous agency known to be a user of the Pegasus spyware, a a web portal said in a report Thursday.
“The Wire” reported that “with Verma, the personal phone numbers of his wife, daughter and son-in-law would also end up on the list, making it a total of 8 numbers from this family alone.” .
The report also states that the numbers of two other senior CBI officials – Rakesh Asthana, an IPS executive from Gujarat and AK Sharma – have been added to the alleged database. Asthana now heads the Border Security Force. “NSO insists that the leaked database has nothing to do with the company or with Pegasus. Verma was not willing to participate in this story, so forensic expertise on the phones linked to him – the only way to conclusively establish whether they were targeted or infected with Pegasus – could not. be carried out, ”the report said. The website said the phone numbers of Asthana, Sharma, Verma and her family members were in the leaked database for a short time.
