A customer proudly shared his tip on an Aldi Facebook group that showed individual items spaced along the length of the conveyor belt, forcing checkout staff to wait for them to slowly reach the checkout before they could scan them.
It was captioned: “In your face Aldi. Just so that we had time to pack our bags and opinions were really split in the comments below, as people were torn by whether the tactic was great or infuriating. “

An Aldi employee joked, “I work at Aldi and would just use the conveyor bar to gather your things first. “
But one buyer replied, “They don’t get paid until I pack everything the way I want it, so no matter how fast they do it, they won’t get paid faster. “
Another employee shared her top tips for packing at checkout that don’t involve taking up all the space on the conveyor belt.
She wrote: “Hello Aldi employee here. I’m going to sound like a worthwhile job, so I apologize in advance.
“We run stores with a lot less staff than many other grocery stores, once we go out of the checkout we will be working in other sections so that there are items available to buy. That’s it so that someone doesn’t get paid to sit on their butt like some retail stores.
“All of this keeps prices low! It is this structure that allows Aldi to have lower prices as they don’t have the expense of paying a lot more staff to twiddle their thumbs until someone comes to their checkout (among other things ).
“Honestly, the majority of the staff are forgiving. But when you let it all pile up because you first wait to wrap up the chicken that’s halfway down the conveyor belt or when you needlessly laugh at or when you’re just damn rude honestly, the way some customers m ‘talked really almost made me cry on some shifts.
“Also, you can’t complain about waiting in a queue either, because it’s the queuing that creates the queues.
“Seriously, if you like to pack your bags at the checkout, here are some tips for you:
Organize your cart as you shop, keeping things together that you would pack together
“Keep this organization on your belt while you load your purchases on
“Have your bags open and seated in the cart, then you pull your cart into the crate.”
“Seriously, making your life (and ours) easier.
“Honestly, it’s a small percentage which is as I described above, but it’s seriously having a big impact on the whole store. “
