According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the deal only needs signatures to be formalized.
Rodgers announced the first day of training camp for the Packers on Wednesday as negotiations between his representatives and the team were underway. He was already under contract for this season but was apparently not happy with the organization and the direction it was taking.
He confirmed many of those frustrations at a heated press conference on Wednesday.
“I felt like if you can’t commit to me after 2021 and I’m not part of your free agency recruiting process, if I’m not part of the future, then instead of let me be a lame quarterback, if you want to make a change and move on, then go ahead and do it, ”Rodgers said.
Reigning MVP Rodgers led the Packers to the NFC title game last season. But rumors of his frustration and a potential trade first surfaced in the NFL Draft and have followed Rodgers wherever he has gone this offseason.
While the deal will keep Rodgers in the Green Bay roster to start his 17th season, whether he will still be there in the end remains an open question.
