Yu Darvish Stole Anthony Rizzo’s Walk-Up Music – –

The game was tight and tense enough that I missed it the first time it came out, but by Yu Darvish’s second at batting I could hear it clearly: the former Cubs ace had slipped the music walk immediately recognizable by Anthony Rizzo for his walk to the plate.

Pretty cool. You can see Darvish’s song and antics on the San Diego show of his first AB:

You can see that Darvish was trying to get Rizzo’s attention and also signaling to anyone watching him that it would be worth listening to his music this time.

Turns out Darvish didn’t really troll Rizzo with the move, he honored him:

“I used this song because it was Rizzo who kind of took care of me when things weren’t really working out my way in Chicago,” Darvish said, according to ESPN. “It was, in a way, to say ‘thank you’ to him. And obviously I have a good relationship with him.

Well done, Yu. Loved by everyone, and funny too.
