Just minutes after Christian Prudhomme got out of his red Skoda and launched the 108th edition of the Tour de France, a reversal occurred at a dangerous chicane.
This is what live Eurosport blogger Felix Lowe called the crash.

195KM TO GO: CRASH!
Julien Bernard (Trek-Segafredo) took the lead as the quick start of the stage continued – then, entering a dangerous chicane, two riders came up a cropper with padded road furniture (from Trek and TotalEnergies) while two have tangled their bikes. A disturbing start – but it didn’t sound too serious, thankfully.
Rob Hatch, commenting on Sean Kelly, said:
We had the first crash! We had the first crash of this Tour de France, I’m afraid!
And Kelly, a quadruple green jersey, contextualized the incident by adding:
“The guys up front went through a very narrow section between the islands in the middle of the road and it was dangerous for those further in the field. This is Brittany – you have a lot of road furniture and small villages. It’s very technical for the first stage of the Tour de France.
And with rain potentially on the horizon later on the stage, Kelly added that the first day of the Tour could turn “treacherous.”
Edward Theuns (Trek – Segafredo) appeared to be one of the runners down. However, there does not appear to have been a lasting impact with all of the runners coming back up and running.
