A Virginia Tech first-year linebacker is accused of beating a man to death for catching him with a cat and leaving him to die despite hearing his alleged victim “bubbling and gurgling,” according to reports.
The Roanoke Times reported that David Etute has been charged with second degree murder. He obtained a deposit this Wednesday.
The newspaper reported that Etute allegedly admitted to police that he punched Jerry Paul Smith, 40, five times in the face and “stomped” on him after learning he was not a woman.
Etute said he visited Smith’s apartment in April after being matched with someone named “Angie” on Tinder, but upon his return on May 31, he found out his pen pal was male, the reporters said. prosecutors at a hearing Wednesday, citing police statements.
The newspaper reported that Smith’s body was found the next day in an apartment.
Jimmy Turk, Etute’s lawyer, told the court the case was “more than just a person showing up to an apartment and hitting someone”.
