Two Celebrity Millennium Cruise Passengers Test Positive for COVID-19 – –

Two guests aboard the Celebrity Millennium have tested positive for COVID-19 in required end-of-cruise testing, the cruise line said in a press release Thursday.

Celebrity Millennium – the first major cruise ship allowing U.S. passengers since the pandemic forced a break in the industry – set sail on Saturday.

The two positive guests, who shared a cabin on the ship, are asymptomatic and are now isolated while being monitored by a medical team, the statement said.

“We are conducting contact tracing, speeding up testing for all close contacts and closely monitoring the situation,” the press release said.

The ship sails “with a fully vaccinated crew and guests and follows comprehensive protocols that align with our destination partners and exceed CDC guidelines to protect the health and safety of our guests,” the statement said.

The seven-day cruise from St Maarten includes port stops in Barbados, Aruba and Curacao.

All guests were required to present proof of vaccination and a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours of Saint-Martin on Saturday, the statement said.

About 500 passengers are on board, more than 95% of whom are fully vaccinated, according to a previous CNN report. Children who could not yet be vaccinated were required to test negative for COVID-19.

“This situation demonstrates that our rigorous health and safety protocols are working to protect our crew, our guests and the communities we visit,” the statement said.

Details of the two passengers’ COVID-19 vaccinations are unknown.

On Monday, the Royal Caribbean Group, the parent company of Celebrity Cruise Lines, mentionned on Twitter that going back to Barbados “for the first time in over a year is really special”.

“All measured measures have been taken to ensure that we are protecting the health and safety of our guests, crew and residents of this precious destination and we are grateful,” the post said.
