Tottenham appoints Nuno Espirito Santo as new manager – .

Nuno finished 13th in the Premier League for Wolves last season

Tottenham have appointed former Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo as new manager for a two-year contract.

Nuno left Wolves in May after four impressive seasons, in which he advanced the club from the championship to a Europa League quarter-final.

Spurs sacked Jose Mourinho in April and replaced him with 29-year-old Ryan Mason until the end of last season.

“It’s a great pleasure and an honor [to be at Spurs]. I am happy and eager to start working, ”said Nuno.

“We have no days to lose and we have to start working immediately because the preseason starts in a few days. “

Nuno won’t have long to wait to take on his former club as Spurs travel to Molineux to take on Wolves in their second league game of the season on August 22.

Levy thanks the fans for their patience

Tottenham brought in Nuno after Mauricio Pochettino, Antonio Conte, Paulo Fonseca and Gennaro Gattuso were linked with the post this summer.

Spurs have contacted Paris boss St-Germain Pochettino over the possibility of the Argentine returning to handle them, but the French club were not ready to let him go.

Ex-Chelsea boss Conte looked set for the role, having left Inter Milan after leading them to the Serie A title, only for talks between the Italian and Spurs to break down.

Former Roma manager Fonseca then thought he was taking over, only to be dumped in favor of Gattuso, who was quickly dismissed when fans reacted badly to the existence of social media posts that questioned Italian’s commitment to inclusiveness.

Nuno won the 2017-18 league title in his debut season with Wolves before leading them to seventh in the Premier League for the next two seasons, as they finished 13th last season.

“We would like to thank our supporters for their patience throughout this process,” said Tottenham president Daniel Levy.

“I have already spoken about the need to go back to our fundamental DNA of playing attacking, entertaining and [managing director of football] Fabien [Paratici] and I believe Nuno is the man who can take our group of talented players, welcome our young players and build something special. “

Paratici stepped down as longtime Juventus football manager to take on his role at Spurs earlier this month.

“You just have to look at Nuno’s time at Wolves to see his ability to take a group of players and implement an adaptive style that brings success and allows players to develop and thrive,” he said. he declares.
