Thirteen vehicles impounded after WRPS disrupted unauthorized car gatherings – .

Each driver received a 90-day license suspension. Seventy tickets were also distributed

Waterloo Region, Ontario – On June 19, 2021, members of the Waterloo Regional Police Service Traffic Unit, with assistance from York Regional Police and Barrie Police Service, attended rallies car unauthorized throughout Waterloo Region.

The police managed to disperse the car gatherings. Through the investigation, it was determined that they were frequented by many people residing outside of Waterloo region.

As part of the investigation into the gatherings, ten motor vehicles were impounded for various offenses, including acrobatic driving and reckless operation of a motor vehicle. Three more vehicles were impounded for impaired driving, and each driver received a 90-day license suspension.

70 additional tickets were issued for some of the following offenses:

  • Dangerous vehicles
  • Cannabis readily available to the driver
  • No license
  • No insurance
  • No muffler
  • Inappropriate braking system
  • Unsuitable tires
  • Several other moving and equipment violations resulted in tickets.

Please note: The Ontario government will introduce new legislation on July 1, 2021, called the Safer Ontario Moving Act, 2021. The new law will increase the license suspension for races and stunts from seven days to 30 days. Impoundment of vehicles will be reduced from seven days to 14 days. *
