A child has been found in a sack at the bottom of the ocean and authorities believe it “almost certainly” is a missing girl who was abducted by her fugitive father.

The body was found in a sports bag over 3,000 feet underwater in the Atlantic off the coast of Tenerife.

Spanish investigators believe it to be six-year-old Olivia Gimeno, who was taken with her little sister Anna by their father Tomas Gimeno on April 27.

It was found next to a second empty gym bag, raising fears that one-year-old Anna would never be found if she was there.

The discovery comes after a scuba tank and duvet cover belonging to Gimeno, 37, were found on the seabed near the same area on Monday.

Beatriz Zimmerman, the anguished mother of the daughters, has been informed.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez: “I cannot imagine the pain of the mother of little Anna and Olivia, who disappeared in Tenerife, following the terrible news we have just heard.

“I send a hug and my love and that of all my family, which today is in solidarity with Beatriz and those close to him. “

Gimeno would never have accepted Beatriz’s relationship with a new Belgian partner after their separation.

The global police agency Interpol had issued two “yellow notices” in connection with the search for the missing girls.

Highly-followed celebrities online, including Cristiano Ronaldo’s partner Georgina Rodriguez, shared a video of the girls Beatriz posted.

However, their worst fears were all but confirmed with Thursday’s discovery.

An update on the situation was provided by a spokesperson for the Spanish investigating judge in charge of the ongoing judicial investigation.

The spokesperson said. “Pending more conclusive forensic tests, the body could almost certainly match that of Olivia G, the youngster who disappeared on April 27 with her one-year-old sister and their father.

“The body was found by a robot from the research vessel Angeles Alvarino at noon today about 1,000 meters underwater about three miles off the coast of Tenerife.

“It was inside a sports bag attached to an anchor. Next to it was another empty gym bag.

“The body was taken to dry land for an autopsy.

“The ship called Angeles Alvarino is continuing its research. “
