New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Animation have announced that they are working on an animated feature film The Lord of the Rings focusing on the story of Helm’s Deep. It is titled War of the Rohirrim and will be directed by filmmaker Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex).
The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim will explore and develop the story of Helm’s Deep, the fortress that served as the pivotal location in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. War of the Rohirrim will focus on the King of Rohan, Helm Hammerhand, and delve into his bloody history.

WB Animation says War of the Rohirrim is a standalone story, but will serve as a companion piece to Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy. The story and artistic elements will tie the animated film to the original films, and Philippa Boyens of the original screenwriting team will serve as a consultant on this film.

The press release also states that War of the Rohirrim is being accelerated for the big screen and that animation studio Sola Entertainment will provide the animation work. The voice casting is currently underway.
