Bosses said ads featuring the Strictly Come Dancing winner, 34, for leading beauty brand Clairol, showed a blatant disregard for his strict rules.

They featured Stacey strutting around in a leotard with freshly dyed hair.

And the chefs felt they were too similar to the format of the BBC Three Glow Up series, which sees aspiring makeup artists take on challenges to demonstrate their skills.

Beeb’s rules state that their actors and performers must not appear in advertisements that “imitate or reproduce their roles on air for the BBC”.

After the commercials, Stacey – who is now dating her former dance partner Kevin Clifton, 38 – was quietly replaced after two sets by rising star Maya Jama, 26.

A BBC source said: ‘Stacey could have made it look like she was stepping away from the show on her own accord, but in reality she was not asked to stay because the BBC was furious with Clairol .

“They’re fed up with people using their platform to go out and make private money.

“It was a sticky situation because she does other things for the BBC, but they decided she would lose her Glow Up contract.

“It’s a hair care brand, it’s shiny and glamorous. Glow Up is all about beauty.

“So basically the BBC said, ‘You’re fired from Glow Up, but you can still make documentaries that are shown on the BBC.’ “

It comes a month after The Sun opened up about DIY SOS icon Nick Knowles clashing with bosses to run a Shreddies campaign.

Nick, 58, faced an ax on his appearance as a builder, but survived.

The BBC declined to comment on Stacey.
