Southwell among the country’s most expensive market towns – –

Southwell is one of the most expensive market towns in the country relative to the average house price in Nottinghamshire, new data has revealed.
The average price of homes in market towns across the country in 2020 was £ 321,780, Halifax found.

Southwell appeared seventh on the list with the highest premium house prices compared to the county with an average house price of £ 374,281 compared to the Nottinghamshire average house price of £ 209,002.

Russell Galley, Managing Director of Halifax, said: “Market towns offer so much to homebuyers including a rich history, period properties, green spaces and tourism. And while they can still get expensive, many market townhouses are much more affordable, like Ferryhill and Crook in County Durham, where the average house price is under £ 150,000.

Mr Galley added: ‘Anyone looking to make the most of their budget might well consider looking at towns and villages close to a historic market town, which may be close enough to experience all the benefits associated with these areas, including maybe avoiding the high price.
