Shaquille O’Neal questions Luka Doncic’s All-NBA selection over Blazers’ Damian Lillard – –

The NBA announced its 2020-21 All-NBA teams on Tuesday.

The first team was led by MVP Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets, Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks, Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors, Kawhi Leonard of the Los Angeles Clippers and Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks.

One of those picks didn’t suit NBA Hall of Fame and NBA analyst TNT Shaquille O’Neal.

O’Neal, a member of 14 All-NBA teams, has expressed his displeasure that Doncic won the first team pick against Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard.

“Has Luka had a better year than Damian Lillard?” I don’t think so, ”O’Neal said on TNT’s“ Inside the NBA ”. “I would change that. Damian first and Luka second, in my opinion.

Lillard was named to the All-NBA Second Team, the sixth time he has won All-NBA honors. The stars who join him on this team include Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers, Chris Paul of the Phoenix Suns, Julius Randle of the New York Knicks and LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers.

When you compare Lillard and Doncic, it’s a very close race between them.

Lillard has averaged 28.8 points, 7.5 assists and 4.2 rebounds for the Blazers this season.

In Dallas, Doncic averaged 27.7 points, 8.6 assists and 8.0 rebounds for the Mavericks.

Their numbers are similar minus the bounces. Additionally, the Blazers and Mavericks both finished with 42-30 regular season records.

O’Neal’s broadcast partner Charles Barley added, “I don’t think either is wrong. “

Kenny Smith agreed that the selection between Lillard and Doncic is definitely up for debate.

“I think Dame propelled her team more in the regular season,” said Smith. “In the regular season, Dame had a better year in the regular season. Portland was a better team in the regular season than the Mavs. The Mavs were top to bottom. It is debatable.

In the first-team votes, Doncic received 55, against 38 for Lillard.
