Several car hijackings, use of firearms caused capture and safety in St. Albert: RCMP – –

EDMONTON – Two people are in custody after multiple hijackings in St. Albert that prompted city schools to seize and secure Wednesday morning

St. Albert RCMP are investigating two car hijackings and two attempted hijackings where firearms and replica firearms were used.

Schools entered a hold and secured around 8:45 a.m. as a precaution, police said.

“When a security call is called by the RCMP, details of the current event are not provided to the location to expedite the process and ensure the safety of the occupants,” the mounted police explained.

“During a Hold & Secure, the site’s doors are locked, no one is allowed to enter or leave the building. “

The capture and securing ended at 10:15 am and two people are in police custody.

No one was injured in the car hijackings, police said.

Classes resumed when the suspension and security ended, St. Albert Public Schools and Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools tweeted.

RCMP to comment on the investigation at 1:45 p.m.
