Thiago struggled after his summer move to Liverpool from Bayern Munich, but was able to show his talent in the Premier League’s first appearance to help his new side finish third in the table.
The 30-year-old was included in Luis Enrique’s Spain squad but started both group matches on the bench.
Enrique has named an unchanged three midfielder from Rodri, Pedri and Koke for the game against Poland in Sevilla.
Liverpool fans disagreed with the decision not to launch Thiago and former Manchester United defender Ferdinand admitted his surprise at his exclusion.
“Yes, I am (surprised that he is not in the starting XI),” he said. BBC.
“But then the emergence of someone like Pedri, who has done incredibly well at Barcelona, is also a huge talent.
“Thiago, at Bayern Munich before last season, was presented as one, if not the best midfielder on the planet at the time.
“I think going to Liverpool probably spoiled his momentum and pace a bit, but there’s no doubt he’s a huge talent. “

Former Chelsea and Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas added that Thiago needs to improve his consistency for Spain to find its way into the squad.
He said: “Thiago has a fantastic quality without a doubt. He started very young in Barcelona, I played with him for a year.
“I think it’s time for Thiago to do something big, in a big tournament.
“He took part in the Euro and the World Cup but he didn’t really play much.
“I think he has to find that consistency and show the world that he has this high level. “
