E3 2021 will take place June 12-15 as a reimagined all-virtual online event. Nintendo, Xbox, Bethesda, Square Enix, Sega, Bandai Namco, Ubisoft, Capcom and others will post new video game announcements, trailers, release dates, and more.
Three years after its announcement, The fall of Babylon got a new trailer and more details than ever before during Square Enix’s presentation at E3 2021 on Sunday. Among those details was the fact that the game is being developed and planned as a live service game, according to developer PlatinumGames.
In a brief message from the developers after the E3 trailer, the members of The fall of BabylonThe development team explained that the game will receive updates after its release that include new content. As per the YouTube trailer description for the game, this content will include “game modes” and will be released for free.
The developers also explained that the game will be playable solo, but will also allow players to team up in groups of four to complete dungeons – which is a possible location for some of the new content. It’s unclear if the co-op will be limited to dungeons, or if it will also be available in the rest of the game.
Aside from its newly announced live service elements, The fall of Babylon is quite similar to what Square Enix and PlatinumGames have shown before. It’s still an action RPG, with a strong emphasis on hack-and-slash combat, and it’s still set in the glowing city of Neo Babylon, a setting that seems to mix high fantasy and biblical elements.
This new trailer also confirmed that the game will be arriving on PlayStation 5, as well as the previously announced platforms of PlayStation 4 and PC. Sadly, one thing the game doesn’t have is a release date, although you can sign up for the beta on the game’s official website.
