People vaccinated against COVID-19 with BioNTech’s vaccine were found to have “significantly higher” antibody levels than those who received Sinovac’s vaccine, the South China Morning Post reported on Saturday, citing a study by Hong Kong.

Some of those who received the Sinovac vaccine may also need a third booster, the newspaper said, citing lead researcher Professor Benjamin Cowling, an epidemiologist at the University of Hong Kong (HKU).

The government-commissioned study was conducted by the HKU School of Public Health and involved monitoring the antibody responses of 1,000 people who received either vaccine, the report added.

Earlier this week, Indonesian officials warned that more than 350 medical workers had contracted COVID-19 despite being vaccinated with Sinovac and that dozens had been hospitalized, raising concerns about its effectiveness against the more infectious variants of the virus.

Earlier in June, Uruguay released actual data on the impact of Sinovac Biotech’s COVID-19 vaccine on its population, which showed it to be over 90% effective in preventing intensive care admissions and deaths.

The Uruguayan government also studied the effectiveness of the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine in 162,047 health workers and people over the age of 80, and said the vaccine was 94% effective in preventing admissions and deaths in nursing units. intensive care and reduce infections by 78%.
