Jambi the Genius, who required John to put on blue face paint and an elaborate turban, would appear onscreen when the Pee-Wee star (played by Paul Reubens) made a wish.

He also provided the voice of Pterri the Pterodactyl, who was one of Pee-Wee’s closest friends onscreen.

Pee-wee’s Playhouse lasted for five seasons in total, from 1986 to 1990, on CBS, with Paragon writing and directing several episodes.

He first played Jambi in Reubens’ show The Pee-wee Herman Show, which aired special on HBO in 1981.

The show originally started as a midnight show at the iconic Groundlings Theater in Los Angeles, where he and Reubens made their debut.

In 1988, two years after Pee-Wee’s Playhouse, Paragon and Reubens co-wrote an almost 50-minute Christmas special for the series.

The Pee-wee’s Playhouse Christmas Special aired on December 21, 1988 and earned John an Emmy nomination for Best Screenplay in a Children’s Special, according to TheWrap.

20 years after Pee-Wee’s Playhouse ended on CBS, Reubens was able to bring together most of the gang, including Paragon, to reprise their roles in the Broadway adaptation of Pee-wee Herman’s show in 2010.

In addition to his work in the Pee-Wee Herman universe, John has lent his acting skills to sitcoms like Cheers and Seinfeld.

He also had a recurring role in the 2010 revival of Elvira’s Macabre film playing The Breather alongside Elvira, herself, Cassandra Peterson.
