Nearly 4,000 fully vaccinated people in Massachusetts have tested positive for Covid-19, state health officials say.
As of June 12, there had been 3,791 cases among more than 3.7 million fully vaccinated people in the state, according to data from the Department of Public Health.

This means that about one in 1,000 fully vaccinated people in Massachusetts are still infected despite the vaccines.

“We are learning that many of the breakthrough infections are asymptomatic or very mild and short-lived,” said Davidson Hamer, infectious disease specialist at Boston University. Le Boston Herald.

“The viral load is not very high. Breakthroughs are expected, and we need to better understand who is at risk and whether people who have a breakthrough can transmit the virus to others, ”he continued.

“In some cases, they will shed such low levels of the virus and not spread to others. “

The Centers for Disease Control said the three vaccines available in the United States prevent most people from contracting the virus.

But the CDC also acknowledged that there will be “a small percentage of fully vaccinated people who will still get sick, be hospitalized, or die from Covid-19.”

Data show that Moderna and Pfizer’s vaccines are about 90 percent effective against infection two weeks after the final dose.

And Johnson & Johnson’s one shot is 72% effective in preventing moderate to severe cases of Covid-19.

All three vaccines completely prevent hospitalizations and deaths, according to the results of their trials.

The CDC says more than 150 million Americans are now fully immunized and more than 65% of adults nationwide have received at least one dose.

More than 33.5 million Americans have tested positive for Covid-19 and 602,000 people have died during the pandemic.
