The warrant was officially lifted at 12:01 am, but masks may still be needed in some places.
It had been more than a year since the wearing of a mask was compulsory.
Doctors still recommend that people wear the masks if they haven’t been vaccinated against COVID-19.
They say the extra layer of protection can always help.
While people have mixed reactions to the warrant lifting, some are happy that they don’t need them, while others still plan to wear them in certain places.
“I think it’s about time. I think people are taking the precautions they need, and I think everyone is ready to come back to life as before, ”said Tabitha Warman.
“I will definitely still be wearing it in grocery stores and crowds at the moment, and at airports, to be safe,” said Kieran Bell.
According to the state’s health ministry, 75% of people over 18 have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine – and 60% of those people have been fully vaccinated.
Now, companies can still require you to wear a mask inside their establishments, and the CDC still requires you to wear masks when using public transportation.
Doctors also say you may not want to throw away these masks entirely – in case COVID-19 becomes seasonal like the flu.
