Marvel’s Kevin Feige confirms Shang-Chi will feature a battle between Wong and Abomination – .

Marvel boss Kevin Feige has shared a little more information about Abomination’s appearance in Shang-Chi: Legend of the 10 Rings in a new interview with Rotten Tomatoes, confirming that the villain in Phase 1 of Marvel Cinematic Universe would fight with Wong, the wizard of Dr. Strange.
“Yeah, we just released the final Shang-Chi trailer,” Feige said. “Some fans said, ‘It looks like a character they haven’t seen in many years named The Abomination, fighting a character who looks like Wong. And I can say the reason it looks like this is because it’s Abomination fighting Wong. “

Feige explained how much he loved bringing back Abomination, an obscure villain from 2008’s The Incredible Hulk – who was part of the initial group of films that laid the foundation for the MCU. ” [It’s] a funny thing to have a character that we haven’t had onscreen for over a decade reappears in the MCU. And seeing the fans on that little tag from the trailer recognize him and kiss him is a lot of fun. “

In MCU lore, Abomination is a mutated Captain Emil Blonsky, a former Special Operations Commander who was injected with a variant of the Super Soldier Serum. Blonsky eventually receives a blood transfusion from the Hulk, transforming himself into the Abomination and rampaging across New York City. Since then, only clues about the villain’s possible fate have been revealed.

Phase 1 of the MCU seems to be of great concern to Feige these days, however. In the same interview, he talked about taking the story back to the original Iron Man, who introduced the original Ten Rings organization. He also discussed one of the most infamous twists in MCU history: the revelation that Iron Man 3’s Mandarin was, in fact, Trevor Slattery.

“And back to Iron Man: we talked about it when we bring this character to the screen, [we] I only wanted to do that when we felt we could do him supreme justice and really show the complexity of that character, which we frankly couldn’t do in an Iron Man movie because an Iron Man movie is about Iron Man; an Iron Man movie is about Tony Stark, ”Feige said. ” Therefore [Iron Man 3 director] Shane Black, in his film and screenplay he co-wrote, came up with this fun twist that we still love today, and it turned out to be Trevor Slattery. Just because this version wasn’t real doesn’t mean there wasn’t a leader of the Ten Rings organization, and he’s the one we first meet in Shang-Chi. “

Either way, Abomination is apparently back, and he’s fighting Wong in a cage match. Why? We’ll just have to find out on September 3, when Shang-Chi hits theaters.
