Consumer champion Martin Lewis has to step into Piers Morgan’s shoes on Good Morning Britain.
The founder of Money Saving Expert, a guest contributor to ITV for many years, says he is “delighted” to join Susanna Reid as a presenter.

He promises to hold “the power of accountability” fairly during his three-day stint in the hot seat from June 28 to 30.

And if all goes well, it is believed ITV bosses could give him a longer run at the top of the series.

Speaking about his new role, Lewis said: “For 15 years I loved answering questions on Good Morning Britain.

“Now I’m delighted to have the chance to ask them. While I hope to set the agenda on key consumer issues like scams and financial exclusion, I am also up to the challenge of spreading my wings on all topics.

“And when it comes to holding power to account, I always play fair with a straight bat, but that doesn’t stop me from swinging it hard. “

Lewis, 48, founded his financial advice website in 2003 and sold it nine years later for £ 87million.

He has run successful campaigns including against bank charges and PPI and is worth around £ 125million.

In 2011, he married TV presenter Lara Lewington, with whom he has a seven-year-old daughter, Sapphire.

GMB editor-in-chief Neil Thompson said he was a “top journalist and broadcaster” and a perfect fit for the show.

“Trust has been and continues to be extremely important throughout the pandemic,” he said.

“And I can’t think of many more trustworthy people than Martin Lewis. “

Despite Morgan’s loss, GMB recorded its highest audience share in a decade, alongside ITV’s other flagship shows, Lorraine and This Morning.

Alternate hosts included former BBC Breakfast star Bill Turnbull and former Labor King Alastair Campbell.

Richard Madeley and Adil Ray have also shared tasks since Morgan stepped down in March after refusing to apologize for the on-air comments on Oprah’s revelations from the Duchess of Sussex.
