Louis Walsh claimed Britney Spears was taking “so many drugs” when she was a judge on X Factor USA in September 2012.

The X Factor UK judge, 68, briefly worked alongside pop icon Britney, 39, when he replaced ailing Chief Justice Simon Cowell during the show’s auditions in Kansas City – and told the Irish Independent that the singer “was not there mentally”.

He said: “I was sitting with Britney for two days, and after a few auditions she would go…” (before mimicking the singer who collapsed on the audition table.)

He said, “They should literally stop the show and take her out because she was on so many pills and stuff. I took pity on her.

“There she was, the greatest pop star on the planet, and she was just sitting there physically, but she wasn’t there mentally. She had a lot of problems.

When the post asked if he thought the Baby One More Time hitmaker should have gotten help rather than work, Louis added that she was “getting millions of dollars,” so “why the fuck wouldn’t she not sitting there? ”

MailOnline has reached out to representatives for Britney Spears for comment.

Britney only stayed on the show for one season – kicking off her Las Vegas residency, Piece Of Me – with her and music director LA Reid replaced by Kelly Rowland and Paulina Rubio in the third and final season.

The star previously spoke of suffering from a “panic attack after panic attack” when she started the series, in a 2012 interview with Elle.

She added, “I got over it quickly, though, and realized I was helping them by being honest.

“Personally, I think that’s the hardest part of being a judge on The X Factor. Most of them are still developing, and it’s hard to tell these young kids if they have what it takes or not, so I try to be as protective as possible with their hopes and dreams. .

Simon Cowell added: “On the first day, 100% she didn’t think she would be able to do it. It’s the Roman Colosseum – 5,000 people boo if you say no. ‘
