Lancashire registers nearly 800 new cases of Covid as Blackpool reaches milestone – .

Nearly 800 new cases of coronavirus have been identified in Lancashire, new figures show.
This is the highest daily total on record since the start of this year, when the county was in the grip of “wave two”.

After a marked drop in the number of positive tests in recent days, Blackburn and Darwen have seen their numbers increase with 149 more in the last 24-hour period. It is against 99 yesterday.

At least 50 cases have been confirmed in eight of Lancashire’s 14 boroughs, including peaks in Burnley, Chorley, Lancaster and Ribble Valley

Blackpool also crossed the 10,000-case milestone for the first time of the pandemic after 59 more people tested positive in the city.

Today’s total of 796 is significantly up from yesterday’s 603 and the 497 posted on Tuesday.

The government said as of 9 a.m. Thursday there had been 11,007 more laboratory-confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the UK.

This is the largest single-day increase since February 19 and the first time reported cases have exceeded 10,000 in one day since February 22.

The government also said 19 more people died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 on Thursday, bringing the UK total to 127,945.

Separate figures released by the Office for National Statistics show that there have been 153,000 registered deaths in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.
