A jealous beautician who left her friend’s baby to die 130 feet from a high-rise building in Moscow has been jailed for 17 years.

Daria Shavelkina, 31, was “envious” of Yaroslava Korolyova, 30, a mother of three, who had a loving husband and happy family life, a court said.

The defendant, a Clarins cosmetic consultant, was pregnant at the time of the incident and met the other woman at her home to collect second-hand baby clothes.

But when Yaroslava turned away, the beautician picked up her two-month-old daughter and threw her out the window.

There had been no quarrels between the friends before the incident, according to criminal investigation reports.

The frenzied mother tumbled down 13 floors but her baby was still after landing on a hard surface in the yard, eyewitnesses said.

Paramedics declared the child dead at the scene.

Yaroslava, who has two other children, was “in a state of deep shock” and needed urgent medical assistance after the death of her young daughter.

Shavelkina was arrested and told police she “heard voices in her head” ordering her to throw the baby to death. She claimed she was mentally ill.

But the court ruled that she had “faked” schizophrenia in an attempt to escape responsibility for the murder after being examined by psychiatric experts at the Serbsky Center.

The head of the commission of inquiry, Yulia Ivanova, said: “A full examination took place at the Serbsky (Center).

“They found no evidence (of mental illness).

“According to experts, the woman faked the disease. “

It was alleged that the woman was “Envious” of her friend’s happy family life.

Shavelkina gave birth to her child while in police custody.

She was convicted of murdering a minor, a felony carrying a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

“The Moscow City Court has issued a guilty verdict in a criminal case against a 31-year-old resident of the Moscow region, Daria Shavelkina,” the city prosecutor’s office said.

“The court sentenced her to 17 years in prison in a general regime penal colony. “

Shavelkina was ordered to pay compensation of £ 49,500 to the girl’s parents.
