Pritzker hopes the cash prize draw will be the ticket to getting more people vaccinated, but the vaccine lottery is also meant to reward those who have already received their vaccines. There is no registration, no form, no waiting. You have already done your part. And that’s a way of thanking you, ”Pritzker said. “This is also our way of telling those who have not yet been vaccinated, please join us. “

Anyone who has at least their first shot will be automatically enrolled as their information is in state databases. Getting your first dose by July 1 ensures that you will be entered into each draw.

Vaccinated adults are eligible to win three jackpots of $ 1 million and 40 cash prizes of $ 100,000. Young people vaccinated will be enrolled in a $ 3 million scholarship pool, where 20 scholarships of $ 150,000 for 12 to 17 year olds are up for grabs.
Two-thirds of Illinoisians over the age of 12 have already received at least their first dose, putting the state on track to meet the 70% target President Biden has set for July 4. Yet nearly 3 million Illinois residents have not been vaccinated.
“I think there are still a lot of people we call the mobile world,” said Dr. Ngozi Ezike, director of the Illinois Department of Public Health. “Maybe, you know, the chance to win $ 100,000 or a million dollars, or a scholarship for their kid is just that nudge to get them off their seats and get the shot. “
The first draw will take place on Thursday July 8 and will run every week until August 26. Winners will be notified by the Illinois Department of Public Health, they can remain anonymous. The money for the promotion comes from federal covid relief money.
