Gary Neville shines a spotlight on Liverpool players as he launches criticism of England

Gary Neville believes England missed out on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s creativity against Scotland as he compared Liverpool to Gareth Southgate’s side.

Neville believes England should have echoed Liverpool’s approach – in which Alexander-Arnold played a key role – with full-backs Reece James and Luke Shaw creating opportunities.

“It was a sobering experience for England,” said Neville. “(Scottish midfielders) Gilmour, McGinn and McGregor were better with the ball than the English midfielders.

“Not only that, Tierney and McTominay at the back did better to pass the ball from the back to midfield.

“Kalvin Phillips is not as good with the ball or accepting the ball as Gilmour, who is technically a little better. But I don’t see England changing. When teams come to them, it will suit them more. “

Diogo Jota assists Cristiano Ronaldo in heavy defeat against Germany

Diogo Jota could not prevent Portugal from suffering a heavy defeat against Germany at Euro 2020.

Jota grabbed the headlines in Portugal’s opener after Cristiano Ronaldo couldn’t hide his disgust when the Liverpool forward opted to shoot rather than move on to the Juventus forward in the first five minutes of the match.

However, the 24-year-old quickly made amends in Portugal’s game against Germany, controlling a fantastic pass from Bernardo Silva before laying down on Ronaldo for an easy tap-in.

Jota’s excellent control and vision have been praised by Liverpool fans who feel their striker has been unfairly treated for his performance in Hungary.

Jota pulled one out for Portugal late but couldn’t prevent a heavy 4-2 loss.
