The group stage of the 2021 European Championship is over. Sixteen of the best teams in the world have qualified for the knockout stages of the tournament, which kicks off on Saturday, June 26. Several teams clearly stand out in the lead before the next stage. Let’s take a look at some of the notable teams leading the pack at DraftKings Sportsbook. You can view the full list of odds of winning here.
France got only one victory in the group stage, but are the favorites to win it all. Kylian Mbappe is yet to score but Antoinne Griezmann and Karim Benzema led the attack and combined for three goals. France’s stagnant creativity could be of concern for the future, as other teams have had a much smoother bonding game.
Italy have won all three of their matches and dominated the opposing teams 7-0. He has scored three goals in each of his first group stage matches and has many dangerous strikers. Ciro Immobile and Lorenzo Insigne looked as dangerous as any competing duo. Generating 60 shots and maintaining three scoreless teams is no small feat. This is one of the best value bets you can make at this point.
England have the third best odds and are unbeaten with two wins and one draw and could be the most talented team on the pitch. England haven’t conceded a goal but creating chances has been difficult as England haven’t been able to generate more shots than their opponents in one game so far. Borussia Dortmund prodigy Jadon Sancho has yet to grace the pitch despite his country’s struggles. Resistance to change could be what defeats England in the knockout stage.
Germany beat a very talented Portugal side 4-2 in the group stage before fighting to a 2-2 draw with Hungary in their final group stage game. Playmakers like Toni Kroos and Ilkay Gundogan can pull the strings all over the pitch with passes, but Germany are yet to score a goal from a striker. Kai Havertz unexpectedly leads his country in goals with two goals, but Germany’s usually elite defense will need to be much better to move forward.
It is surprising to see that 3-0 Belgium have the seventh best odds, and only Italy can match their consistency so far. Romelu Lukaku’s elite finishing skills contributed to three of Belgium’s seven goals in the tournament, and the defense gave up only one goal to Denmark. Kevin De Bruyne is back in the mix after missing the first game of the group stage with injury and is arguably the best playmaker in the world when in good health. The Belgian midfielder can trade quality pieces like Axel Witsel, Youri Tielemans, Thorgan Hazard, Yannick Carrasco and others, while Thibaut Courtois has been a steel trap in the back. If you are going to bet on a team outside of the top five, Belgium is your best bet.
