The Olympic qualifying tournament is underway as 24 countries aim for the final four places at the Tokyo Olympics!

To kick off the group stage in Victoria, BC, Canada hosts Greece in a Group A game.

Third quarter

Canada has taken the lead! Andrew Wiggins’ 3-pointer gives Canada a 67-65 lead over Greece with 3:21 left in the third quarter.

Half-time: Greece 50, Canada 46

Greece leads Canada by four before the half. It has been a team effort for Greece as six different players have five or more points. Konstantinos Mitoglou is the team’s top scorer with seven points, adding six rebounds from the box.

For Canada, Nickeil Alexander-Walker’s 14 points give the country a fighting chance. He shoots 5 for 7 from the field and 2 for 4 from beyond the arc. Andrew Wiggins also made his impact felt, scoring nine points in the frame. Canada will need to tighten the screws defensively if they want to make a comeback in the second half.

Canada rebills! A 3-point Luguentz Dort brings Canada less than two, behind Greece 48-46 with 31 seconds to go in halftime. The 3-ball was Dort’s first shot of the game.

Greece withstood Nickeil Alexander-Walker’s run to start the quarter, leading Canada 41-35 with 5:03 remaining at halftime. In the first quarter, it was their 3-point shot. In the second quarter, the domestic presence was aggressive.

Nickeil Alexander-Walker cooks! He has eight points in the first three minutes of the quarter to bring back Canada less than one, behind Greece 33-32 with 7:21 to go in halftime.

End of first trimester: Greece 23, Canada 19

The 3-point shot made the difference in this one as Greece reversed their peripheral shots in the first quarter to take a 23-19 lead in the second quarter.

RJ Barrett to Cory Joseph to Andrew Wiggins – calm the line down for Canada Basketball. Canada leads Greece 12-11 with a little over three minutes to go in the first frame.
