Everton move closer to Rafa Benitez as manager after third meeting and Farhad Moshiri promises – –

Rafa Benitez is convinced he is set to become one of the most amazing nominations in Everton history.
The man dubbed a legend by Liverpool fans has been asked to ‘expect’ a formal contract from Goodison owner Farhad Moshiri within the next 24 hours, after a THIRD meeting on the role of the vacant manager.

If Moshiri makes Benitez his next manager, he can expect a massive backlash from fans – who greeted with horror the news of the ‘impending’ date last night.

Fans are openly hostile to Benitez, who called Everton a “little club”, and predict the owner would be “finished” if he named the former Anfield boss.

But Nuno Espirito Santo found himself in exactly the same position with Moshiri, after talks late last week resulted in the apparent offer of a deal.

But nothing materialized this weekend, despite several assurances to the contrary.

And the owner of Everton has instead expanded his search to include interviews with other managers, with Benitez having given a third meeting on Wednesday.

It is understood that there were other candidates as well, including Roberto Martinez, the former Toffees boss who now works as Belgium manager, and Brighton boss Graham Potter.

If Moshiri delivers a contract this time around, then it would be the most controversial in Goodison’s history.

And that would raise the first serious questions about his club ownership, among fans who had previously been patient with his string of checkered nominations.

Ancelotti’s replacement will be the sixth manager in five years since Moshiri took over as owner.

And the fans would need a lot of conviction before accepting Benitez.

Benitez has returned home to Merseyside and wants the job – and will back his methods to quell the outcry his appointment would inevitably spark
