England v Czech Republic: Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell to miss Euro 2020 final group match

England duo Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell will miss Euro 2020’s clash with the Czech Republic on Tuesday after isolating themselves.

The pair interacted with Scotland midfielder Billy Gilmour, who tested positive for the coronavirus, full-time in Friday’s 0-0 draw.

They must isolate themselves until Monday, June 28 included. The decision was made in consultation with Public Health England.

The entire England squad and staff underwent lateral flow testing on Monday and all were negative again, as was the case with UEFA’s pre-match PCR testing on Sunday.

Mount and Chilwell will isolate themselves and train individually in private areas at England’s St George’s Park training base, with the rest of the squad returning after tonight’s game against the Czech Republic at Wembley.

Further tests will be performed as needed.

Mount and Chilwell hugged and spoke to Gilmour on the pitch and also reportedly spent 25 minutes with their Chelsea teammate in the tunnel afterwards, before he returned a positive test on Monday.

The pair could potentially miss England’s first knockout fixture for Euro 2020 depending on the outcome of tonight’s last Group D games.

If England lead the group, they will face the second team in Group F (Portugal, France, Germany, Hungary) at Wembley on Tuesday 29 June.

But if Gareth Southgate’s side are second in Group D, they will face second in Group E (Spain, Sweden, Poland, Slovakia) on Monday June 28, which means Mount and Chilwell will not be available.

If England finish among the top four teams in third place, a situation which would force them to lose to the Czech Republic and Scotland to beat Croatia by a significant margin, they will face either the Group C winners or of group B on Sunday, or the winners of group E on Tuesday.
