In an interview with CBC News, Priyanka spoke about the significance of her accomplishments over the past year. She was also the first person of Indian origin to win Slide cancere in the worldwide history of franchising.

“It’s so important for me to embrace my culture, because I haven’t seen her grow up much,” Priyanka said. “But now… on the cover of this magazine, it’s got the name Priyanka slapped on it.”

The 30-year-old dating star, also known as Mark “Suki” Suknanan, quit a career in children’s television to appear on the popular Course de dragsters series in 2020, at the age of 28.

But long before she was Priyanka, Mark lived in the gay village of Toronto and in 2017 was encouraged by local drag queen Xtacy Love to take the stage. Performing as Priyanka Love, she made her debut in drag rooms like Crews & Tangos, and has proven to be a natural.

Priyanka knew life would change when a Canadian edition of Course de dragsters was announced in 2019. She was working as Suki on the children’s series YTV The area.

“It’s scary to quit your bread and butter job and try something new because it makes your heart happy and ignites your soul,” Priyanka said.

“But I did and I’m happy. “

“Representation on all fronts”

For LGBTQ lawyer Daniel Pillai, the cover of Priyanka with IT it’s more than a fabulous look.

“It’s a huge deal,” Pillai told CBC News. “Not only do you have a drag queen representing the inclusiveness and diversity of the LBGTQ community here in Canada, but you are also Caribbean and you are also of South Asian descent so I think that is portrayal on all of them. the fronts. “

A member of Toronto’s LGBTQ community, Pillai is a Canadian of Indo-Fijian descent. He said Priyanka’s success and visibility gives him a sense of belonging.

“I think I have someone of color to do the cover [of a national magazine] and being celebrated in such a big way shows how receptive Canadians are to stories like this and how open they are to seeing people like Priyanka take the stage, ”he said.

The cover doesn’t mention pride or that her star is a drag queen, choices Priyanka said she enjoys.

“I only exist as an artist, who is an icon, who looks like a young Cher… you choose [the magazine] and then you find out who I am, ”she said. “That I’m a drag queen. That I am also Mark Suki from Whitby, Ontario. “
