RALEIGH, NC – A new executive order is expected to emanate from Gov. Roy Cooper’s office on Friday.
Cooper hinted Thursday that his updated executive order will have to do with his declaration of a state of emergency. This state of emergency allows North Carolina to use federal money and get vaccine doses faster.
It comes a day after the governor announced a vaccine lottery that will pay out $ 1 million to four vaccinated adults in North Carolina and four college scholarships of $ 125,000 to teenagers.
“It’s your million dollar shot. No matter who wins, there is no way to lose, ”said Cooper. “A million dollar chance is a very good motivation. But even if your name isn’t drawn, the worst thing you can do is get solid protection against a deadly virus. “
As of Thursday, 464 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in North Carolina.
The percentage of positive tests in the state is 1.8%, which is the lowest since the start of the pandemic.
Currently, 548 people across the state are hospitalized with COVID-19.
Sixteen more deaths were reported Thursday and 50% of the adult population is fully vaccinated.
