VANCOUVER – British Columbia added 109 more COVID-19 cases to its total on Friday in the last scheduled pandemic update of the week.

The latest infections brought the province’s seven-day moving average to 104 cases per day, the lowest since Oct. 1.

Health officials also announced one additional death from COVID-19 on Friday.

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 146,902 cases of coronavirus in British Columbia and 1,740 related deaths.

Friday’s numbers came in a written statement from Dr. Bonnie Henry, provincial health official, and Health Minister Adrian Dix.

The couple also announced that British Columbia has crossed the 75% mark for COVID-19 vaccines given to the eligible population.

In total, 75.1 percent of all British Columbia residents aged 12 and over have now received at least one first dose, as have 76.7 percent of adults aged 18 and over.

The province administered a total of 4,296,151 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca, including 823,371 second doses.

“Being fully vaccinated – with both doses – gives you and those around you maximum protection, which is why we encourage everyone to reserve your second dose as soon as you are eligible,” said Henry and Dix. in their press release.

“This Father’s Day weekend, let’s do our part and honor our fathers by protecting them with our own COVID-19 vaccine,” the couple added.

Currently, there are 1,389 active cases of COVID-19 in British Columbia, with 128 people hospitalized, including 48 in intensive care units.

The number of hospitalizations fell slightly for the third day in a row, but the number of people in intensive care increased slightly each day.

Indeed, 48 people in intensive care is the highest total British Columbia has seen in more than a week, but it’s still less than a third of the 178 coronavirus patients, a record, who have needed intensive care in British Columbia on April 29.

Most of the new cases added by British Columbia on Friday were in Fraser Health Region, where 65 new infections were reported.

There were 26 new cases at Interior Health, 13 at Vancouver Coastal Health, five at Northern Health, and none at Island Health.
