Captain Gareth Bale has warned Wales could upset and injure the Italian hosts in their final Euro 2020 Group A match in Rome on Sunday.
“We have a game plan that we think can hurt them,” said the Real Madrid star.
Italy have already qualified for the round of 16, while Wales need a draw to ensure they advance to the next round and a win would put them in pole position ahead of the Azzurri.
“It will be a big challenge. We have no doubts even if that record was not there, ”Bale said of the Italians who are unbeaten in 29 consecutive games.
Italy have won 10 straight games, all without conceding a goal.
“It would be a fantastic result for us… (to) win the squad and be at Wembley, which would be great for the Welsh fans. “
Wales have played both games so far in Baku, where they were held to a 1-1 draw by Switzerland but beat Turkey 2-0 in midweek.
Bale missed a penalty against Turkey but said he would be happy to come back against Italy if necessary.
“I’m happy to take penalties. It’s a decision the coach has to make. If I am asked to step up again, I will have no problem. “
Wales coach Robert Page expects Wales to suffer but insists he would not limp on the line.
“We want to qualify in style and get to where we deserve it, which in my opinion is the top two,” he said.
Italy manager Roberto Mancini believes Wales will be a tough opponent and the ex-Manchester City manager has even compared them to England’s league side Stoke City.
“Stoke had a very difficult style of play, they were very difficult to solve,” Mancini said.
“It will be a very difficult game from a physical point of view because they are a powerful team like Stoke, but they are also very technical.
“Wales have players like (Joe) Allen, (Gareth) Bale and (Daniel) James. They have quality and skillful players. “
Bale said: “I didn’t know Stoke was that good. “
“We don’t mind what anyone else says,” Page added.
“We are fully focused on what we can do and how we can hurt the teams. “
Italy beat Turkey and Switzerland, both by a 3-0 margin, but Mancini believes France remain favorites to win the tournament despite the draw with Hungary on Saturday.
“The fact that France drew with Hungary does not change anything,” he insisted.
“France remains undoubtedly the favorite of the Euro, because they are world champions, with a young team which continues to improve. “
