Alberta moves closer to stage 3 benchmark as reopening of Canada Day remains on the line – .

CALGARY – Alberta will move to the third stage of its plan to reopen on July 1, which means all sanitation measures will be lifted, Premier Jason Kenney announced on Friday.

Indoor social gatherings will once again be permitted and the provincial mask mandate will be lifted. Masks will still be required in certain indoor environments, including on public transport and in city-owned buildings.

Anyone who tests positive for COVID-19 will still need to be quarantined.

The province says 70.2 percent of eligible Albertans – those aged 12 and older – have now received a first dose and more than 25 percent have received a second dose.

Health Minister Tyler Shandro said at least eight weeks should pass between the first and second dose.

Vaccines can be booked on the province’s website www.alberta.ca/vaccine or at a participating pharmacy.

Reaching the 70 percent milestone means the deadline for the $ 1 million summer open lottery will be 11:59 p.m. on June 24. Visit www.alberta.ca/lottery to participate.

There are two more $ 1 million and 40 travel prizes from WestJet and Air Canada that will be raffled later this summer as part of efforts to encourage Albertans to get vaccinated.
