VICTORIA – Two people are hospitalized with serious injuries after a small plane crashed in a residential area on Vancouver Island.

The private Beech G36 Bonanza plane crashed shortly before 1:25 p.m. Monday near Hayden Place in Mill Bay, about 44 kilometers north of Victoria.

Six ambulances and two air ambulances were dispatched to the scene, according to BC Emergency Health Services.

One person was taken from the crash site by ambulance in serious but stable condition. A second patient was airlifted from the scene in critical condition, according to emergency services.

Mill Bay resident Thomas Roy was at the scene near Horton Road and Hayden Place shortly after the crash.

“I just got home around 1:30 am and saw the ambulances and firefighters,” Roy told CTV News.

There were only two people on the plane, which was traveling from Sechelt to Victoria, according to the Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB).

The TSB said it was not deploying investigators to the crash site, but would “continue to gather information and assess the event.”

Victoria Airport Authority confirms the plane was planning to land at Victoria Airport when it crashed.

Jack Wilke says he was in a nearby skate park when he saw the plane fly over.

The 16-year-old resident said he then heard what sounded like “falling rocks” and realized the plane was on the ground just outside someone’s yard.
