WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar said in a company-wide speech Thursday that he has no plans to step down this year as a result of AT&T. Inc. of

decision to split and merge the media company with Discovery Inc.,

said a person familiar with his words.

Mr. Kilar’s future as head of WarnerMedia has been called into question after AT&T and Discovery unveiled their plans last week. He was not kept informed of the ongoing deal, people familiar with the matter said. Mr Kilar said he would re-evaluate his options next year.

Speaking at a town hall on Thursday to celebrate the first anniversary of streaming service HBO Max, Mr Kilar said, “My plan and my goal is to stay here in my role as CEO at WarnerMedia. I am not currently thinking of postmerging. There will be a time to consider this subject in 2022. ”
Mr Kilar added, “I think we have some work to do, and next year’s work can and should be extremely rewarding as the world continues to see what we are capable of doing.”

AT&T CEO John Stankey said in a statement Thursday, “Jason’s leadership and abilities have been at the heart of positioning WarnerMedia for renewed growth, and I am delighted with what we will see during the course. of his second year at the helm. ”

Neither AT&T nor Discovery commented on Mr. Kilar’s future with the company when the deal was announced. The companies said they plan to close the deal, pending regulatory approval, in mid-2022.
