Valtteri Bottas edged Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton in a competitive start to the Spanish GP weekend in the first training session in Barcelona.

Bottas, who vigorously dismissed a report on Thursday suggesting his Mercedes seat was under imminent threat, edged Red Bull’s Verstappen by 0.033 seconds in the opening session with championship leader Hamilton just over a tenth in third place.
