UK to build £ 200million national flagship product to promote UK industry abroad Politics News – fr

A £ 200million national flagship will be used to promote British commerce and industry to the world, Boris Johnson said.

The boat will sail around the world and be used to host trade fairs, ministerial summits and diplomatic talks as the UK seeks to forge ties and boost exports after Brexi, added the Prime Minister.

The ship, which does not yet have a name, will be the successor to the Royal Yacht Britannia, which was decommissioned in 1997 – although it is a ship rather than a luxury yacht.

the Prime Minister came under pressure from activists and Tory MPs to name the ship, which is expected to cost up to £ 200million, according to the Duke of Edinburgh, who was instrumental in the design of the Britannia.

the Duke of Edinburgh was Lord High Admiral from 2011 until his death last month, and served in the Royal Navy during World War II.

Mr Johnson said: ‘This new national flagship will be the first such ship in the world, reflecting the UK’s burgeoning status as a great independent maritime trading nation.

“Every aspect of the ship, from its construction to the businesses it presents on board, will represent and promote the best of the British – a clear and powerful symbol of our commitment to be an active player on the world stage. “

The announcement of the ship comes at the end of a difficult week for the PM, who saw it savagely by former aide Dominic Cummings more than seven hours of testimony provided to MPs reviewing the government’s response to COVID-19[feminine[feminine.

Monsieur Cummings claimed the government was responsible for tens of thousands of unnecessary deaths and did not take the coronavirus seriously at the start of the pandemic.

Mr Johnson has also been confronted with allegations that his past comments about women wearing the burqa helped create the impression that the Conservative Party is “insensitive to Muslim communities”.

And the ministerial watchdog said it was “unwise” to allow renovations to his Downing Street apartment without “looking more closely at how it would be funded.”

Construction of the new vessel is expected to begin in the UK as early as 2022 and it will enter service within the next four years.

The tender process for the design and construction of the vessel will be launched shortly.

It will showcase British design and the latest innovations in green technology and will be piloted by the Royal Navy.

The ship is expected to be in service for approximately 30 years.

Since decommissioning in December 1997, the HMY Britannia has been moored in Edinburgh and used as a tourist attraction.

HMS Queen Elizabeth, an aircraft carrier named after the Queen, has been sent on its first major military deployment last week, with the monarch visiting the £ 3bn ship beforehand.
