It had only seemed a matter of time before Fury’s much-anticipated clash with compatriot Brit AJ was announced, with a date of August 14 in Saudi Arabia.
But on Monday, those plans were plunged into turmoil after a referee ruled that Fury would be forced to face Wilder for the third time by September 15 due to a contract clause.
British boxing fans were hopeful that Wilder could accept a pull-out offer to step down and allow the Fury vs AJ fight to continue.
But judging from Fury’s Instagram story, that doesn’t appear to be the case, in the news that will be a bitter disappointment to many.
Fury said: “What a joke @bronzebomber has become. He was asked for 20 million to pass over #joker. Looks like I’m going to have to break his head again! “
And he later added a photo of a lizard to his story with the caption “there’s Deontay right there the reptile.” “
Fury has drawn and beaten Wilder before, and there’s no doubt the public has more of an appetite for a fight with Joshua than seeing him fight with the Bronze Bomber again.
But it seems increasingly likely that the all-British fight will be forced to be postponed, and could even be called off entirely.
