Officers from the Listuguj Police Department were called to a residence on Riverside Road after receiving reports of gunfire.

They arrived around 11:30 am and found a barricaded person inside, before hearing more gunshots.

A 28-year-old man inside the house refused to cooperate with the police, but eventually got out of the house and surrendered.

Listuguj’s Mi’gmaq government confirmed the incident on its website on Saturday evening.

“On behalf of myself and the Council, our hearts are with you. Our government will continue to make every effort to provide support to those in need during these difficult times, ”Chief Darcy Gray said in a statement. “In the coming days, LMG will make services available to those affected. “

Gray said community members are urged to stay away from the area as the Listuguj Police and Quebec Police Department investigation is underway.
