WINNIPEG – Manitoba health officials announced two new deaths from COVID-19 on Tuesday, bringing the death toll to 1,035.

The fatalities were a man in his thirties from Winnipeg and a woman in the 80th in the Southern Health Region. His death was linked to variant B.1.1.7.

Officials also updated details of the four deaths reported on Monday.

Two deaths were from the Prairie Mountain Health Region, a male in his 40s and a male in his 50s, and both were linked to variant B.1.1.7.

The other two deaths were men in their 60s both from Southern Health Region.

The province also saw a significant drop in the number of new cases, with 259 cases added, bringing the total to 49,046.

Manitoba’s five-day test positive rate is 13.8%.

Winnipeg again recorded the highest number of new cases with 187 and the test positivity rate is 15.9%.

Southern Health Region recorded 28 new cases, 15 were identified in both Interlake East and Prairie Mountain regions, and 14 cases were from Northern Health Region.

Manitoba currently has 4,945 active cases and 43,066 people have recovered.

There are 253 people in the hospital with active COVID-19, including 59 people in intensive care.

61 other people are no longer contagious, including 20 in intensive care.

On Monday, 2,398 tests were performed, bringing the total to 751,948 since February 2020.


As the number of COVID-19 cases and test positivity rates continue to remain high, health officials are once again urging Manitobans to get vaccinated as soon as possible.

As part of the vaccination bulletin, the province said there were thousands of appointments available at Leila’s supersite between May 26 and May 28.

Manitoba has so far administered 761,132 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine and the province has received 878,980 doses.
