Iowa Republican Joni Ernst on Saturday demanded that China “stop covering up” the origins of the coronavirus and called for a full investigation to prevent a “recurrence”.
“The Chinese Communist Party refuses to cooperate fully in efforts to learn more about the origins of the deadly coronavirus,” Ernst said in a statement to Fox News on Saturday. “The world deserves answers – and that includes determining whether it is from the Wuhan Institute of Virology. “

WUHAN’S LEAKED LAB CORONAVIRUS THEORY FOR HOUSE REPUBLICS REQUEST ANSWERS
House Republicans this week wrote a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken asking him to release “unclassified documents and declassify other documents” relating to classified research referenced in the ministry’s fact sheet. January 15, 2021.
The documents would show a collaboration between the Wuhan Institute of Virology and the Chinese military in “experiments on laboratory animals”.
The letter noted that the Wuhan laboratory “has been a major target” not only for the US government but also for the World Health Organization (WHO) in their research into the origins of the coronavirus.
“Finding the source of the COVID outbreak is all about preventing a recurrence,” Ernst said on Saturday. “Communist China must stop their cover-up and start cooperating with international efforts to get to the bottom of this. “
Ernst criticized the WHO report following their month-long trip to Wuhan in January.
The Iowa Republican accused the WHO investigation of being “influenced” by the Chinese Communist Party and called for an independent study into the origins of the virus.
The March report rejected any claim that the virus was leaked by a laboratory in Wuhan and said it was “very likely” that the virus would spread through zoonotic transmission, the transfer of infection from animals to humans. .
