Queens, with Brandy, Eve, Naturi Naughton, Nadine Velazquez and Pepi Sonuga, and the Wonder Years reboot, from the original series’ Saladin Patterson, Fred Savage and Lee Daniels, emerged as trailblazers at the script stage and remained strong during casting, production as well as screening and testing of the finished pilots.
Quinta Brunson Abbott Elementary was also one of the first to stand out, while Maggie Mull and Justin Adler Maggie, headlined by Rebecca Rittenhouse, proved to be a manual dark horse, staying largely under the radar until very strong projection during projections.
ABC has already passed on a number of pilots, including comedy Adopted, and expect more driver passes this afternoon, while some drivers will remain in active consideration for the mid-season. Last month, the network aired their multi-camera comedy straight to series starring Kelsey Grammer and Alec Baldwin after seeing the pilot episode.
