The police were called to the school at around 9.15 a.m. Several security forces were on the scene.
Two students and an adult sustained non-fatal injuries. Center fire chief Carl Anderson says they were taken to the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. EIRM said there was no status update at this time.
A suspect has been taken into custody.
“Today we had the worst nightmare a school district could encounter. We had a school shooting here at Rigby Middle School, ”Jefferson School District Principal Chad Martin said. “What we know so far is that the gunman has been apprehended. There is no longer a threat to the students. “
Students from the college are currently being evacuated to Rigby High School, where parents can pick them up.
Students who are not picked up will be taken home by bus.
“I pray for the lives and safety of those involved in today’s tragic events,” Governor Brad Little said in a prepared statement. “Thank you to our law enforcement and school leaders for their efforts in response to the incident. “
The attack appears to be the second school shooting in Idaho. In 1999, a high school student in Notus fired a shotgun several times. No one was hit by the bullets, but a student was injured by debris ricocheting from the first shell.

“My prayers go out to the injured this morning at Rigby Middle School,” said Superintendent of Public Education Sherri Ybarra. “I am grateful to our first responders and the school staff who are working to deal with this terrible incident. I will do whatever I can to help the district and the community move forward.
“We send positive thoughts to the victims of this tragic incident and look forward to their full and speedy recovery,” said Idaho Education Association President Layne McInelly. “Patience will need to be paramount while school officials and law enforcement investigate the situation. The AIE and our local educational associations are ready, willing and able to provide all necessary support to staff, students and the community affected by today’s act of violence. “
