Snow White’s enchanted wish attraction at Disneyland now criticized for non-sensual ‘kiss of true love’ scene – fr

When Disneyland reopened at the end of April, Snow White’s new Enchanted Wish also opened. The merry-go-round is a reimagining of the old spooky adventures of Snow White, and Disney has been promoting the new version of the attraction. One of the major new scenes near the final of the race features the kiss of Snow White and Prince Charming, an integral part of the film.

Disney is now facing criticism from those who believe the scene should have been omitted from the ride because it describes a situation in which Snow White cannot consent to be kissed. Acts of physical contact are often considered non-consensual when one or more parties are asleep, intoxicated, or insane.

Those who support the inclusion of the scene often cite that an attraction of Snow White without the kiss of true love would then exclude a main plot point from the story, and the kiss is seen as a saving action rather than ‘a violation of Snow White’s autonomy.

Disney’s role in portraying social and cultural issues has been a hot topic lately. This controversy follows Disney’s push for inclusiveness. Major changes are underway at the parks, including new Disney Look guidelines and ongoing renovations to the Jungle Cruise, as well as the upcoming closure of Splash Mountain in US Parks.
