Here’s the tip about that rather brief trailer for Snake Eyes: Origines de GI Joe– in addition to having a subtitle as heavy as Solo: A Star Wars Story: Henry Golding is an incredibly good-looking man, and we know that because cinema is a visual medium, so we can see him with our own non-snake eyes. Whatever happens in this spin-off – ninja stuff, car chases, Samara Weaving doing the thing – they at least got Henry Golding in.
This teaser – again quite brief – for Snake Eyes: Origines de GI Joe (full title must be stated) isn’t exactly glamorous, and there’s little that puts it in the realm of the barely established GI Joe Cinematic Universe. And that might actually be a good thing for this prequel / spin-off, which stars Golding as the eponymous ninja and explores his “classified origin story” with a supporting cast that includes Samara Weaving as Scarlett, Andrew. Koji as Storm Shadow and Stormrsula Corberó as The Baroness.
Golding inherits a character previously played by Ray Park in the two GI Joe: The Rise of the Cobra and G.I. Joe: Retaliation-Two forgettable non-starters in the franchise who really tried to get us to believe in Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Cobra Commander for a full minute there. The last attempt to make GI Joe Happening, this time as a prequel, hits theaters on July 23.
